The River

Running time: 2min 49sec

The constantly changing ripples of a river's surface suggest the potential for an absorbing visual respite, a retreat. But in The River, the meditative effect is undermined by the intrusion of the surrounding noise of trams, cars, trucks and foot-traffic. Based on video footage shot from Nibelungenbrücke, a bridge over the Danube in Linz, Austria, The River emphasises the tension between the senses, clashing meditative video footage, ambient urban noise and reflective 'ambient' music by Natalie Grant.
